I looked at both of my 67s and you are right looks like an extra collar below the bearing ..I do not have this on The charger ..maybe because it was a column shift

Kevin,

The 67 is a different design - what year is yours -68? Don't think a column shift or not makes a difference - think the year does. The 67 has a spring between the collar and the bearing.

Did you have the clip I was talking about on the tube in yours?

I can make you a collar that will prevent it from sliding out that would go against the bearing but I could not get to it till Friday or Saturday.

I don't have the clip..but I'm thinking short term until I get the correct setup a 67 type collar or retainer would be the way to go and keep things safe..I'll see if can find some thing local tomorrow and let you know ..thanks guys I very much appreciate your repsonses

Kevin,

I can make you a nice split collar so you don't have to take the column back out again. Just let me know.

My offer stands in case you find you need a custom one.

Looks to me that a standard collar will need to relieved in order to clear the metal part of the bushing. Do you have access to a lathe or mill?

I think I found what the problem is the original collar has a set screw to attach it to the outer tube the new one does not

Don't totally understand the pictures but you very well might be right. The collar would not be a bad safety though especially since the plastic pins are broke.
