What are the largest 14 or 15" wheel/tire combo I can get under the rear of my '67?

I really do not want to modify anything in the rear to get larger rubber on my car. but I think I need wider than the 225's I have now.

What is the largest I can go without it rubbing?

I bought new 215/70-14 for the rear tires .... i think that was a close call to the fender...

(I went for the fatest tires in the optionlist : 8,25x14)

Wider than 225....hmmm maybe there is more room against the inner fender...dont know.

Wow, I have 225's (BF Goodrich - P225/70R14 98S) now, and they are miles away from the outer lip.

I know there has been talk about this before, there just seems to be now definitive answer on this. Which is confusing. I suppose backspacing is the key here.

(Must be my road Wheels.. they are quite Deep.

The back is much deeper than the front rims)

My old 67 I use 275 60 15's on 8 " rim on rear using a 3.5" backspace. gives me 3/4 inch on outside wheel well and almost 2 inches from the leafs.
Once the car is finished I will use 295 50 15 on 8" rim on rear I had a set or rears trimmed down but Ill have to go measure them for the exact backspacing

I now know the secret is the backspacing. I am going to have to see if anyone here in Finland has a set or 2 of wheels we can test fit..

235 60 15 in front
15X7 Copcar wheels. I believe 4-1/2" backspacing on these wheels. No rubbing and just enough clearance in rear. Will drop front when it gets converted to disk brake

Well we have the same car (500) so I will comment on my experience. I run the M/T street radials P255/60/R15. I put them on 15 x 8 steel rims with a 4 1/2 inch backspacing. They looked great but unfortunately driving down the road, and especially turning, the tires rubbed on the aluminum molding around the wheel well. No way was I going to modify the molding so I went with a 15 x 7 4 1/4 backspace rim and it fixed the problem. Changing to a 7 inch rim cop car 4 1/8 offset would probably have worked fine but it was more than twice the money and didn't want to spend the money at that time. Hate the rims but it works.

No way can I fit a 275 tire on this car with that molding sticking in the wheel well.

That really helps me. For now I jsut replaced my 225's on the rear. Because I knew I needed to go to 15's if I went wider. But What I am going to do is get another pair of 15" wheels with the size and offset you suggest. And then put those on when I need fatter rubber.
