Electroinc Ignition
#1
Greetings - Is there an electronic ignition system available that is absolutely undetectable visually? My R/T is absolutely original, and I don't want anything to mar that appearance. However, I'd like to get a little more reliability and performance from electronic ignition. I absolutely don't want the external Mopar control module, so the typical route is out for me.

I thought I remembered a system out there which was undetectable without removing the distributor cap. I don't want any extra wires coming out of the distributor, or any other externally mounted components. If there isn't anything like this available, I'll just keep my breaker points. I kind of like the ritual of setting dwell and timing anyway... Big Grin

Thanks!

JD

A lot of people like Pertronix.

Personally, I use Mopar factory el dist., a wiring harness with the extra wires built in, and a pig tail long enough to hide the box. The only thing you see is the two wire dist, but you really have to look for it.

Pretty much as above with ws27, but this is what I have fitted with the stock cap option.

Thanks for the input guys. But, both of these options are too visible for me. I was hoping that there was something that just replaced the breaker points inside the cap, and that's it. Looks like I better not throw away my dwell meter just yet...

Thanks,

Thanks, that looks very interesting. Looks like there are two wires exiting the distributor, which won't look quite right. Wonder if there's a way to ground one wire inside the distributor so only one shows. I suppose it wouldn't be too bad to have two wires; I could shrink-tube them together to disguise them, I guess. Will this work with an OEM coil? One more question; you have links to two versions. Other than the $40 price difference, what's the difference between them. I'm assuming that for an otherwise stock set-up, the "cheap" one would work fine. No big deal to pop for the higher-priced one if there's a real benefit.

Thanks!

I run pertronix. I highly recommend it. I kept the stock ballast resistor on the firewall, but I bypassed it behind the resistor. SO no one really sees that I have electronic ignition without poking around closely.
