Air Cleaner Question
#1
Hi All,

Can anyone tell me if a 440 4 speed had a different air cleaner than a 440 automatic in a 1967 R/T. It is my understanding that a 4 speed came without the dual snorkel and the auto came with a dual snorkel (silenced vs un-silenced). I have a 4 speed and am trying to get to the bottom of this.

Thank you all for your help

Kevin

I don't think the trans had anything to do with it. I believe the cars built for California came with the "silenced" air cleaner, Ca had noise restrictions.
If a man speaks while in his garage and his wife does not hear it, is he still wrong?

I've "kicked" this question a round for a long time, I've seen 67 R/Ts with no snorkel unsilenced air cleaners. I saw one at a show in OH, it was the samw color as my car and looked pretty good. I asked the owner about that and he said he was the original owner of the car and said that's the way it came! The other thing that I remember is the build date on the car was late June or early July.

I have a good friend in Michigan who is more keen than myself. He thinks late year production cars came with the unsilenced air cleaners. That is the only correlation he has been able to make in 30+ years.

That's the conclusion I've come up with!
