Hi, I'm considering fitting electronic ignition to my 68 R/T 440.
Any ideas, thoughts and recommendations would be welcome.

There are lots of them out there, here are a few to mull over.
Pertronix. Just remove your points and replace with the Pertronix unit. Adjust and you're off and running. Only downside is if the Pertronix fails, you're SOL until a replacement comes in.
Mopar Performance Electronic Ignition: Replaces distributor, and adds a ECU to mount on firewall or someplace else. All the parts are readily available in most parts stores in the event of a failure.
Davis Unified Ignition: 2 setups offered. One is based on GM's integrated cap/coil design, however these don't fit all big blocks. The other is a more Moparish setup using seperate cap/coil (but still uses GM electronics). Like the MP setup, all parts are readily available in parts stores.
If you're looking to maintain a stock look, the first 2 are what you need. The third one is for someone who isn't concerned with originality.
I love Mopars so much I'm date coding the skid marks in my underwear.

Thanks 67440Dodge. I'm not too concerned with originality, more reliability. Is the Davis better than the Mopar setup?

I recommend the Mopar Electronic Conversion.
If you are interested and your car is a NON factory A/C car I make/sell a nifty Ignition Module mounting bracket that is a bolt-on. No need to drill holes in your firewall, it uses existing mounting points on your firewall. The Mopar stuff is very reliable and when you buy the kit you get a brand new distributor. Most times your old point unit is worn out.

Both the MP and the Davis ones come with new distributors and electronics. The Mopar distributor is actually a Mallory distributor that Mopar resells. That means it's easy to play around with the curve if you want. Not sure about the Davis setup.
Almost any Mopar parts supplier can get you the MP kit. For the RB motors, the part number is P3690428, for the B motors, it's P3690427

MP. Is the way to go. I have two modules mounted under battery tray. If someday one fails? I unplug the old one and plug it into the new one next to it.

I've also had extremely good luck with the Mopar Performance electronic ignition kits. I've run those kits in every small and big block powered Mopar that I've owned going back to the late 70's when Mopar Performance was known as Direct Connection.
The ONLY issue that I've ever had with the MP kits was with the orange ECU boxes failing prematurely back in the late 80's if I remember correctly, but after that, I started running the MP chrome ECU boxes on everything and those have never let me down either on the drag strip, or on the street.

Thank you very much John! I try to keep them as clean as possible because that color REALLY shows the dirt and dust!
