'68 R/T data
#1
Hello all.

First post. I'm seeking information about a car. All if have is the VIN. It's a real R/T, based on the VIN, from the St. Louis plant. The fender tag is gone. Dodge Coronet Registry seems like this would be the place to get the info I seek. Where do I find a Coronet registry, assuming this car is in it? I know of the Super Bee registry so I'm hoping there's a Coronet registry similar to it containing info which would be on the fender tag. I've not found an actual registry here.

I found a web site which says it's possible to get info about a car direct from Chrysler if it's a '67 or earlier model but that they may not have data for '68 and newer models.

Thanks.

Anybody? Is there a Coronet Registry, or another Dodge and/or R/T registry? I have the VIN. With that, I'm seeking the fender tag/build sheet data. All I need is a registry, not Galen's, to locate the codes by the VIN.

Thanks.

Welcome aboard.
Chrysler Historical has copies of the IBM cards for some 67 and earlier cars.
Regrettably, there is no such reference for 68 and later cars. I'm not aware of any 1968 model year specific registries.

It will not be possible to recreate the documentation from just the VIN.
It's also difficult to find archive copies of the tag from other sources as the VIN is not on the tag. You'd have to get the SO number off the car and try to find a picture of the tag based on the SO, not the VIN. That's a much harder task.

pm me the vin and I will look in the database and what I have on cd that might match (I have scans and copies that are orphaned)

Thanks 69Coronetrt. Thanks for the valuable info and insight. I'm more used to the '69 and '70 fender tags with the VIN, or at least sequence number, for cross referencing. Bummer. Where would I find the SO (stands for?)? I was hoping somebody had compiled a registry like exists for Super Bees. I guess Galen probably has the most comprehensive registry but I've heard he's so busy that it's difficult and takes a while to get a response and also costly.

Sales Order = SO = a unique number assigned to a car. A document like the window sticker, broadcast sheet, invoice or, rarely found, IBM inspection card would tie the VN to the SO.
the SO number is stamped on the radiator support and the driver's side real trunk rail.

You should find one of the following letters A, E, or G followed by an 8 followed by a W then six numbers. This sequence helps people search a data base that may have the car in a data base. For example, if I know the SO number I can search my collection of tags and see if it pops up. I don't have 'a lot' of 68 tags but...who knows. It may be in there.

Thanks. Good to know. I guess Chrysler changed that for '69 or '70 and later because I think on those the sequence number is what's stamped on the radiator support, trunk lip and engine block. I could be wrong, it's been awhile since I did that research.

I'll search for the SO number. Unfortunately, all of those documents are also gone, at least to the best of my knowledge. But I'll see I can't find something and the SO and see if you have it.

Starting in 69, it's the VIN on the body, block and transmission.
On a 68 and earlier, the SO is stamped on the body. A 68 may or may not have the VIN on the block and transmission.

My 68 RR did, it was a later car, end of May 68.
Objects quickly DISAPPEAR in the rearview mirror and PLEASE stay seated until the ride comes to a complete stop!!
