stamped motor numbers
#1
Is there any good information out there, on the stamped numbers on the head of a 318 I got for a spare?
PM318R 28031297
as best as I can tell, they are kind of hard to read!
Things I do know: 318ci, 1969 stamped on block, that's about it!
Thanks in advance.

Also there is nothing like your number in the Govier White Book. All casting & part numbers in the book have only 7 digits. That book covers the years 1962 - 1974. For 1968 thru 1971 the head casting number for a 318 head is 2843675 and the part number is 2843674. There are 5 valve cover bolt holes, the valve diameters are 1.78 and 1.50. They are open chamber heads.

Sorry had some things going on, haven't been on in a while, The numbers I mentioned are stamped on the front of the driver side head, they are not casted numbers?

Go to the listed website. It shows where to look for the numbers, and also what those numbers refer to. These are raised numbers that are part of the casting process. It sounds like what you are describing are numbers stamped into the head afterwards.

Yes these numbers are stamped into the head, the are not casting numbers. I was told the numbers could tell you more about the engine, than just the casting numbers?
