Canadian export 1970 Coronet R/T convertible - history?
#1
One of the Coronets in the muscle car collection that my brother looks after is a 1970 triple white R/T convertible which was acquired for the collection in 2010. We trying to establish the history of this car, which is turning out to be more difficult than we expected given the comparative scarcity of Canadian cars of this type. The car has the 440 Magnum engine with the TorqueFlite transmission, which according to the broadcast sheet was originally fitted with 14 inch wire wheels and was built to Canadian specs (Y07), it also has power disc brakes. The vin is WS27U0G100392 and the broadcast sheet entry Y93 indicates a show car finish spec B, less fuel (according to some websites this is a '71 code). Any help you guys on the forum can give regarding the history of this car would be much appreciated! BTW there are photos of the car at http://www.rareperformancemotors.com/197...tible.html Cheers Mozz

Now the story gets interesting - searching the internet I found this article http://convozine.com/2692-garry-foster/7749 describing another Canadian 1970 triple white Coronet R/T convertible. Having been in contact with the company who did the upholstery refurbishment it appears that the vin numbers of the two cars differ by 2 digits (...392 and ...394); so it would appear that these two nearly identical cars went down the production line together. Given that it is extremely unlikely that two individual customers would order near identical cars at the same time - it would seem to me that these "twins" were part of a special Canadian dealer order or promotion. The visible differences are subtle - chrome exhaust tips on the Canadian car - none of the UK car: rear bumper protectors on the UK car - none on the Canadian car and the unusual "Super Bee" emblem on the hood of the Canadian car rather that the R/T emblem. Unfortunately, Tom Duncan the original owner of the Canadian Cornet passed away last year so I'm trying to track down the current whereabouts of this twin to the UK Coronet. Has anybody on the forum here heard of this sort of thing before - near identical "twin" Mopars?

Yes.

I track 69 R/T convertibles. There is a run of five sequentially numbered 69 convertibles. The VINs and VONs are consecutive. They are all Y2 and similarly, but subtly, different. They were built in early to mid August and were apparently promo cars.

We had a guy in this area that had a 67 GTX convert, triple white, 440, 4 speed! This car had the chrome road wheels and redlines on it, talk about neat looking! I ran into him a couple of years ago and asked him about the car, same old story, "I sold it, What was I thinking"??
Objects quickly DISAPPEAR in the rearview mirror and PLEASE stay seated until the ride comes to a complete stop!!
