Could this be real?

Yes, I saw this on ebay too, a while ago, seems like from those pics at that time, it had some rot in the rear quarters.

Jim 68cuda Wrote:Actually, I am not certain about the horn button. I am more familiar with 67's than 66's. I had thought thought that the 66 A & B-body Plymouths and Dodges with the wood grain wheels had the chrome horn button like the 65's. I could be wrong.

The 1966 and 1967 wood grain steering wheels are one of those optional parts that are somewhat confusing. Even though there is only one part number listed for the wood grain steering wheels in the 1966 factory parts book, which is part number 4016VTT as listed in section 19-30-4 and listed for use on A and B-Body models, I've seen two versions of the 1966 wood grain wheel. One with a chrome horn button as Jim mentioned and shown below in pictures number one, two and three below and a second version with the padded horn button as shown in picture number four below. The version with the chrome horn button was also previously offered through the 1966 "Chrysler Parts Hi-Performance & Dress-Up Parts" catalog under the same part number 4016VTT for all 1964 through 1966 A-Body cars with a suggested list price of $28.82.

In 1967 there was also only one part number listed for the wood grain wheels and that was 4016CTT as listed in the factory parts book in section 19-30-4 and was also listed for use on the A and B-Body models, but I've seen three different versions of the 1967 wood grain wheel. The first looks like the 1966 version shown above with the padded horn button, a second that is shown in pictures number one and two below which some call the "recall" wheel and a third version shown in pictures number three and four below that looks the same as the "recall" wheel except that it has horn buttons in the openings of the spokes.

Amen to that Steve! The 1967 Plymouth wheel that I showed above with the horn bars in the spokes was supposedly offered on ebay for $5,000.00! I understand that they are EXTREMELY rare and hard to find and with prices like that, I'd have to have the rich uncle that I don't have leave me a LOT of cash for me to buy a steering wheel like that one! WOW

All of the 1966-1970 wood grain steering wheels are VERY beautiful and most are also VERY expensive indeed!

OK Richard, now you've got me wondering. My 66 500 vert has the first wheel and button you show. I always thought that was a Valiant horn button and assumed that the wheel came off a Valiant. Do you know if the one pictured was actually on some 66s or did you just us the photo as an example?

Hello Rich,

If you could please look at picture number 3 in my post above, you will see the wood grain wheel with a chrome horn button installed on a 1966 Coronet. 500. I don't know this car personally, so I have no idea if that steering wheel came on that particular car from the factory or not, but my thoughts are (and I can't back these thoughts up with any factory documentation) that since Chrysler had offered that style steering wheel with the chrome horn button in their 1966 Hi-Performance and Dress-up Parts catalog as shown in the three pictures below for sure (and possibly in that same style catalog in 1965) that were listed for use on all 1964 through 1966 Valiant, Barracuda and Dart models, maybe the early production 1966 Dodge and Plymouth A and B-Body cars came with the chrome horn button on these optional wood grain wheels and at mid year when the 1966 Chargers were introduced with this same style wood grain steering wheel as an option with a padded horn button, Chrysler switched over to using the wheels with the padded horn button on all models from that point on?

By the way, if the print on the pages below are too hard to read for anybody, please let me know and I can eliminate the parts of the pages that don't deal with the wood grain wheel and then I can enlarge that information to a larger size ok?

Richard

This is the cover of the 1966 Chrysler Parts Hi-Performance & Dress-up Parts Catalog. This edition was originally printed on 07-01-1966 under what I believe was part number 6100792
