I totally agree.

When I became a new Mopar owner, I knew nothing and found so much conflicting info that it was frustrating. I wanted to help in anyway I could to get correct or even more accurate information out there. I think that was one of the motivating factors for approaching Barry about adding the data and color and trim books to HH. HH was already a great source for FACTORY information. I though adding the books would help newbies like me have a place to turn to for what the FACTORY, not some internet site, not some magzine, not some urban legend said. The books are what Chrysler wanted out there. Are there errors and updates that followed the initial releases? Yes and I still search for them to update the site. But...at least what is there now was better than what was there before which was nothing.

I've barely scratched the surface of some of these things but if I can help others learn about tags, broadcast sheets, or IBM cards in any way, or work with others to compile accurate documented information for reference, I will.

That would be greatly appreciated. Maybe you could start a thread in the "Car History-- Build Sheet Lost & Found" forum for lack of a better place currently to give us links to on-line sources, or printed material that folks could source for this kind of information? That way, DCR members can find all of this type of information in one thread rather than having to search through the various forums to find information that has been discussed in past conversations.

On a personal related note, I wonder if you could help me verify a question that I have been trying to verify regarding interior trim in the 1966 factory parts book in the Interior Trim section for my 1966 Coronet 500 2 door hardtop with factory bucket seats? I'm using the P4W White Trim Code color as an example because that's what I'm changing my cars seat color to, but my question would apply to any of the factory seat trim colors and for that matter would also apply to other Coronet, Dodge, Plymouth and Chrysler seat trim color options.

Parts in question.

Section #: 23-108-4
Part description: Cushion, Front Seat. W-P, (2 door hardtop Coronet 500 model) with interior trim code P4W (White)
Part #: 5412 B4W
Quantity used: 2

Section #: 23-108-5
Part description: Cover, Front Seat Cushion, W-P, (2 door hardtop Coronet 500 model) with interior trim code P4W (White)
Part #: 5851 B4W
Quantity used: 2

Section #: 23-108-15
Part description: Spring and Cover, Front Seat Back, W-P, (2 door hardtop Coronet 500 model) with interior trim code P4W (White)
Part #: 5740 B4W
Quantity used: 2

Section #: 23-108-16
Part description: Cover, Front Seat Back, W-P, (2 door hardtop Coronet 500 model) with interior trim code P4W (White)
Part #: 6004 B4W
Quantity used: 2

My question:

Since I do not see a separate listing for bucket seat bottom cushion, or seat back foams by themselves and the listings for the bucket seat bottom cushions and seat back assemblies both have trim color codes, I've come to the conclusion that if an owner, or dealership needed bucket seat foams replaced due to being damaged beyond simple repairs back when these parts were still available through Chrysler, the cars owner, or dealership had to purchase the seat foam and cover as a single unit rather than separately? If only a bottom, or back seat cover was damaged, but the foam was still in good condition, the seat covers were available as separate pieces?

Am I on the correct track here Doug? Thank you for your thoughts.

Richard

Richard, At first I thought you were on the right track but consider this:

Looking at the 1/66 edition (so your pages may be slightly different).

I thought I'd try and find just the seat frame section to see if things like foam was listed. No luck. I looked for common items in the interior section. No luck. But I did find the seat frame page. Look at ILS page 23-304 through 306 (the BODY section, not the TRIM section). You should find seat frame parts. The illustration shows the back springs and frame are serviced in 23-108-12. If you go to the TRIM section and look at that reference, all the PNs have trim color codes......so

what if the 'CUSHION' 23-108-12 included an entire frame, pad and cover as one assembly instead of the dealer having to order the cover, foam, frame, trim and other parts separately? It would certainly be easier and take less man hours to replace the whole back of the seat as one unit as opposed to having to put a pad on a frame, then the cover, then the trim, latches, etc, etc on the original frame. To me this makes more sense.

COVER could mean just the cloth or vinyl material. CUSHION is the whole bottom (23-108-4) or seat back (23-108-12) assembly. Your thoughts?

Looking at 23-108-4 again, I see things like w and w/o airfoam and w and w/o heavy duty springs. The only way those references make sense with a trim code is if it is an assembly.

Hello again Doug,

Please excuse the time delay in my response to your last two posts, but I've had a few irons in the fire, plus I wanted to recheck all of the information that you so kindly provided, as I had also gone over all of that information myself, but I wanted to make sure that I hadn't missed something. I do believe that you're thoughts about the seat "CUSHIONS", or "SEAT BACKS" being complete assemblies makes a lot of sense and that's why none of the individual bucket seat foams are listed with separate part numbers as we've both found out. As far as the "COVERS" go, I'm thinking that dealerships sold those to upholstery shops, or individual customers as an over the counter option to have the repairs done outside of a dealership.

Thank you again very much for your help. Smile

Richard
