PCV / Breather Placement
#1
Good Morning - '67 Coronet with '68 383 4V. The motor came with the chrome direct connection valve covers. They weren't in the best shape, so I cleaned them down and painted them to match the engine. On the motor back from the shop, they had the 2 port fill hole / breather on the driver side and the PCV on the passenger side. I didn't pay attention when putting them back on and reversed the sides. I looked up a bunch of pics and see some cars with them this way and others with them the other way. In my '67 service manual where it shows air-flow through the engine it says the breather is on the driver side as an "intake". The air moves through the engine and exits through the PCV on passenger side. With my current install, I'd have this reversed and am just wondering if it makes any difference. Thanks!

Should not make a difference in how it works, but access to oil fill may be worse. Original 67 Coronet 500 383 4 barrel pics.

Thanks Mark. It is crowded on the passenger side with the heater hoses. Maybe I just won't burn any oil, lol.

Hello Art,

I have a 1966 Coronet 500 with a custom built 440 with a set of the chrome Direct Connection valve covers and I run the PCV valve on the passenger side and the breather and oil fill cap on the drivers side as seen in the pictures below and it works out very well for me. This also places the oil dipstick tube assembly and the oil fill cap on the same side of the engine which I find helpful during oil changes..

Thanks Rich. After reviewing the service manual and the airflow chart again, I swapped the covers and now they look like yours. Never thought about your point of DS / Fill on the same side. Makes sense. Thanks again.

You're very welcome Art. The Chrysler engineers also placed the oil filter on the drivers side front on big block engines as well. Pretty smart fellows those engineers! Wink Smile
