I bought a nice looking radio a mopar 232 for my car finally! It even has nice looking knobs.. and the connectors are still on it..i paid 60$ and those knobs are hard to find they rarely have them on them.. anyways.. it was so i could get rid of the ugly blank space of a radio delete plate being there.. (according to the fender tag it is supposed to have a radio...) We hooked it up..the front speaker is trashed.. cracked..so we hooked it up to a small speaker i had laying around..there is no radio static sound..but it does make a crackly sound through the speaker when you move the volume knob..we tested both the radio and the antenna to make sure they were both grounded good..Im guessing the radio is bad... is there an easy way to repair these? My moms boyfriend is an electrician and is much more knowledgeable about electricity than me and could really help me out if there is possibly a fix

The fact that you got any sound at all means you had power to the radio. The scratchy noise when the knob is turned indicates a "dirty" potentiometer. Anything can be repaired, but at what cost? The hardest part is to figure out what the problem is. Any repairman is going to charge way more than you paid for the radio. Unfortunately an electrician and an electronics tech are 2 completely different fields. Also a schematic is a must to do any diagnosing. Make sure that the antenna is good and plugged into the radio properly. These radios will not usually not pick up anything without a proper antenna. If your friend is knowledgeable about electronics, schematics can be purchased online. The most popular and abundant are Sam's Photofacts. I have some, but not for this model. Good Luck.
