Band Lever ratio
#1
Just wondering if anyone had a simple explanation of what is going on with the 4 different Band Lever ratio's for a 727 tranny. which ratio is better? I am doing a recalibration kit in mine and, more than likely, going from a 2.? ratio to a 5.0 ratio lever. Why is the 4.2 lever so much higher than the 5.0 lever? I got the Fairbanks Transaction Kit, and I am going full competition on this transmission!

Someone told me that the Hemi's with a 727, had the 5.0 ratio, and that most stock had the 2.9, I think, or the 3.8, maybe, and I don't know where the 4.2 came in. I don't know this to be exact. I would like to find a little more information out!

The front band is applied in 2nd gear and released again for 3rd. The higher ratio levers do a better job of stopping the spinning clutch drum. BUT, they also release slower. The 4.2 costs more because there are fewer manufacturers of it. There is an aftermarket band strut that connects the lever to the band, get one. I have broken the stock strut too many times to ever use another stock one.......even on a stock transmission. This place has the 4.2 lever in 2 versions oem and aftermarket as well as a beefier band strut from a 46RE and an aftermarket version. No affiliation. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/727transmission.htm
