Buyer Beware
#1
Saw this on CL, and since it's not too far away, I took a ride up to look at it.

http://scranton.craigslist.org/ctd/3817105376.html

The paint is all original, except where they modified the rear quarters. Even the dealer tag on the trunk lid is aged along with the paint. Looks like it was done many years ago. Interior is in really good shape. Vinyl top is in good shape.

Now for the bad news.

The pictures hide the rot. The right front fender is rotted thru on top, Both quarters are rotting where the modifications were done to it. Looked at one frame rail and gave up, it was gone.

Now for the worst part. On the side window is writing that states "R/T Tribute car. VIN shows car is a Coronet 440 with 383". If that is the case, many years ago someone went thru the trouble of swapping everything for a R/T into this car. Short of pulling the carpet to see if the seat mounts had reinforcement plates, every bit from a R/T was on it. Even the fenders and doors had no sign there were holes filled in from the 440 trim going down the side. The car even had a 26" radiator opening and did not have AC. The one big thing is the power drum brakes. I've never seen a 440 trim car come with this.

Someone either went to a lot of trouble to make a 440 car into a R/T, or something else is going on with that VIN tag.

Trust me.. vacation was more fun!

Jeff's friend is right, the car looks MUCH worse in person. The paint does a good job of hiding it in the pics.

After looking at the Ebay ad, it's definetly a R/T with the wrong VIN tag. Did some digging, and found out the car was sold for salvage out of Kentucky back in April.

Hard to get much for a wrong VIN salvage car. It's kind of a mutt I guess.

I have seen those Spitzer dealer ship badges before, they have sold allot of cars.

Interesting - "The one big thing is the power drum brakes. I've never seen a 440 trim car come with this"

Mike - my '66 440 had power drum brakes (vert)

Possible difference change in model years between 66 and 67? I've heard the only way to get power drums in 67 was with the 11" brakes, and they weren't available on 440's.

Then again, because I've never seen it doesn't mean it couldn't be bought..
