Things Given Up To Support Your Hobby?
#1
In my endeavor to repurchase my old car and or build a new 67 R/T if I can't find mine. I have done a few things to (Um Justify?) The new household costs this will create. I have been a HEAVY smoker for 34 years, I was up to 3 packs a day till about 7 months ago when I got this idea to find my car again and I just quit one day. January 5[SUP]th[/SUP] at 11am I just figured “OK 3 packs a day at $5.89 a pack is $17.67 a day, and a week is $123.69. Now on top of that, I love my Beer...BOY, Do I Love My Beer! But I have even cut that way back (Hell No I'm Not Quitting That) but I have cut way back saving about $70.00 a week. So at this point I am saving $193.69 a week or $774.76 a month. I figure that should be a really good starting point to have the funds to support my new/old hobby.

What do you guys think and or have any of you given up something to support your Hobby?
And For The Love Of God, How do you justify it to “Da Wife” Mine so far doesn't seem to understand.
Although I am in the process of buying her a House (shhhh don't tell her its cause the new house has a Garage to store and work on the R/T!) lol

Oh and BTW its been a week since I sent out the paperwork to find the R/T. I “HOPE” that in just one more week I will get a reply!

Thanks and can't wait to hear back from you guys popcorn

With the prices for nice cars, parts and supplies to keep them road Worthy, this is where most of us are these days to support our car hobby. Rofl

15yrs ago I needed a new car. So I bought the closest thing to a muscle car I could get at the time. A 99 Dodge Dakota, 318 5spd. (The R/T couldn't be had with a stick) To swing the insurance payments, I gave up smoking.

To fund the current car habit, I gave up free time (and some sanity) by working a second job, and doing side jobs here and there.
I love Mopars so much I'm date coding the skid marks in my underwear.

I really didn't give anything up but I did learn how to do EVERYTHING myself over the past 20 years. the only thing I pay for when building a car is the parts, engine machine shop work and tire mounting. I do everything and I mean everything myself. saves lots of money. buying junkyard parts helps too.

Interesting question - cant say I gave up something consciously for my car but I'm sure I gave up a nice dinner, some shopping excursions and other girly things along the way.
But like 65rbdodge says, I HAVE learned to do the work on my car myself, with help of course mainly from Kevin and Mike and the list is long is what we've done! But at least I can say I did the work and I find pride and satisfaction in that. I also figured if I own it gotta learn how to work on it. Right? Did a lot on my car since I bought it and next year hopefully maybe I will find a way to get the extra money to get the paint and body work done.

As for the wifey part - Ida know buddy ... I never bought one so Im not sure how to answer that one!
Good luck! Big Grin
