I know this was asked in the old Coronet forum.
Do you have to drop the tank to change sending unit?

No, just make sure the gas level is lower that the hole! Just so you know, the new sending units won't necessarily be accurate. Sometimes it's better to repair the old if it still works.

Mine works. Full tank= 3/4
3/4 tank = 1/2
1/2 tank = 1/4 to empty depending. I don't like to run with a "full" tank because the rubber elbo is crusty and it will leak fuel if the fuel level is FULL.
I ordered a new one from classic due to be here next week.

You might be able to adjust the old one, also check to make sure the float is not partially full.
