Wiring... let me pull my hair out ARGH! - Piper - 05-04-13 Trying to get my 68 Charger wired up and running I took the cluster out, did the white face gauge thing and while it was out took the opportunity to change all the bulbs (everything was pretty much burned out so I started fresh) The wiring forward light harness was shot, so I bought a used/working one (Im already thinking that the issue) purchased two new marker lights plugged in all in and here are the issues I have now The black wire that goes on the alt gauge gets hot hot hot hot..man like really hot just with the key switch on (I checked the grounds and the cluster is also grounded) all the lights turnsignals work with the exception of the driver side turnsigal is dim when it blinks when and the parking light (same fixture) simply wont turn on everything on the passenger side is working ok..where do I start? Beer! Wiring... let me pull my hair out ARGH! - ws27 - 05-05-13 Not sure what to tell you, but you need to figure out what is runnin throught the black wire. Does the whole wire get hot. or just a connection? We need a wireing diagram to get to the bottom of this. Thinking maybe it's grounding. Wiring... let me pull my hair out ARGH! - Piper - 05-05-13 I am thinking that as well Andy, they are correct. That black wire getting heat must be because of a faulty ground. I am in a 10 yard fight with this electrical, because the car has has a lot of things taken out of the car (the harness hasn't been cut thankfully) but the radio, ac, rear defroster ashtray etc are all missing so I have orphaned wires and conenctors everywhere Wiring... let me pull my hair out ARGH! - ws27 - 05-05-13 It's hard for a faulty ground to cause an overheating condition. You have something drawing too much through the black wire, or the wire has some sort of resistance causing the overheat. Do you have an amp meter you can connect in line? Wiring... let me pull my hair out ARGH! - ws27 - 05-05-13 Wow even with my eyes, I can follow the black wire... Wiring... let me pull my hair out ARGH! - Piper - 05-05-13 i think I am in for a doozy the green wire goes out to the super coil....going to find out where these black go Wiring... let me pull my hair out ARGH! - Piper - 05-05-13 The red goes directly to the cluster, the thick black one goes to the alt, and the black with the tracer out to the ECM...I am a thinking it needs to all come out and be redone wont be done for Carlisle at this rate..oh well! |
