5.7 hemi build - 65rbdodge - 11-23-24

A few months ago I bought this 2012 5.7, it was in a ram truck and had a miss on number 1 cylinder. Got it for $340. I had a pretty good idea it was going to be a wiped cam.

After tearing it down I wasn't surprised at what I found

I clean it a few times and pressure washed the block. And gave it a coat of motor coater race hemi orange

Of course pieces of the cam made their way through the motor, the bearings weren't in the best shape, the mains were worse than the rod, I replaced all of them. The crank wasn't to bad so I polished it by hand. The cam bearings were fine.

It had a miss alright!!
Amazing still running huh, I bet oil filter was a little over weight.

Having only ever worked on vintage mopar motors, some of the stuff inside is a little different- fractured connecting rods, they use a bolt but no nut. The pistons are very short with thin rings

Light weight parts

One piece rear main seal, what a great design

Why do they make so much HP? It's the heads of course, 330cfm on the intake side

New cam going in-

LockingĀ  out the cam phaser, this normally advances/retards the cam timing, you need to lock it out when you put a cam in with more lift/duration so you don't have piston to valve contact

There sure is allot going on these newer engines. Thanks Jeff.

It's amazing most dealers will only change out cam/lifters/intake (for some reason on a 5.7 you have to replace intake due to metal contamination in oil) when it gets wiped. And charge 10 grand for it when a reman long block from them is only 5k
