What's weird is now I'm thinking about it the last starter snout was also cracked
It acted up in Carlisle, on top of tapping the starter I moved the converter a few teeth with a pry bar and it started..that should have been my sign
I thought the old was just on it's way out

Maybe Something happened in carlisle..that is the same thing it was doing with the old starter and when it started to act up. I'm thinking the converter may have ballooned. I'm looking into what it takes to do a 4 speed swap it looks like the hardest parts are welding the piece on the frame rail for the z bar and the hump area

both of those are easy as no one will look too closely at the welds!

Buy the whole kit from Brewers, it'll save you from having to scrounge parts.
Hardest part on your car most likely going to be the pedal assembly if space is at a premium under there like you told me one time.
Hardest part welding wise is the Z-bar. I used a spare block I had with a bellhousing on it so I could line everything up and then weld it in place.
