Primer and paint procedure the factory way? - Hemigunnar - 02-05-15
Hello! I'm restoring a Dodge Coronet 440 -66 and I would like to know the factory procedure of applying primer and paint. I know that the body was dipped in black/gray primer up to half the firewall and then the red oxide paint/primer was applied, but how and where? Under? Inside? Luggage and enginebay? I have seen the black/grey primer line inside on the firewall and dooropenings, but did they not paint above that inside at all? How did they lay the topcoat? Only in doorjamb or in the whole car? Was the undercarrie black, oxide red or topcoat? Please, explain to me...!
Primer and paint procedure the factory way? - Warhawkfight34 - 02-05-15 That is a question that I think is extremely hard to answer. I know for a fact that the engine bay was fully painted. The underneath was car color painted past the wheel wells and the inner frame rails. I know this because my car was never touched. It had all the original paint and under coating (which the factory undercoating was gray not black).I know that vinyle top cars were just primer on the roof. I can go abck and look at my restoration of my 69 and see how it was. I'll let you know what I find. As far as primer still not sure exactly. Good luck!
