Looking on rock auto they have a listing for a front inner and front outer. Is this the same as left tire right tire? Or do both sides have an inner and outer?
Both sides have an inner and outer. One is left hand thread, and one is right hand thread. That way, the sleeve will act like a turn buckle and increase or decrease the distance between the two tie rod ends for alignment.

If you are not sure, take yours apart first to see.

Or, if you are so inclined, order an inner, outer, and sleeve and change the whole thing as an assembly.
A factory shop manual would be a very wise investment at this point.

Yes it would!!
Is that different from the chilton manual I have online?

Yes
The factory shop manual goes into more depth than the Chiltons imho. More concise photos, better pictures, etc. My first front end tear down and rebuild I did a long time ago would have gone much more smoothly if I would have consulted the shop manual before attempting the job. I ended up having to take the car to a front end shop to have it done the correct way and the alignment was done as well. It was like a new car again! You can buy the shop manual reproductions on ebay with some searching. I found some repro manuals at auto swap meets too and the nice thing about that is once you have them, you have them forever. They are also avaiable on CD. The old site here before this new one had links to all of that information and if you ask I am sure the links will be posted up again.
I got mine from these folks awhile back for my 66..

Thanks for the link. Will def be getting that if I cant find a torrent. I knew chilton was a rip off before I bought it, but I was in a tight spot and hoped it would be of help. It wasnt, and I knew better. Ah well, I have a log in to the chilton manual for a year for 67 440 if anyone needs to borrow it.
