Got my new front drums from classic industries. ( Made in China )
They have a great finish on them and the machine work is nice.

Except they are obviously out of balance. As you spin the drum you can see ovality in the casting that causes the drum to stop in the same spot every time you spin the drum.
I measured the "cast iron ovality run out" to a exact spot on the drum with a dial indicator at .050.
That spot always spins back to 6 oclock position.

Would I look like a fool if I asked a tire shop if they could balance my drums?
If not?
Ill use sticky square wheel weights at 180 from the heavy spot until the prepencity to turn back to the 6 oclock has ended.

Forgive my misspellings ( Big words today )

Thanks
Stick on weights might not hold when installed like that. The centrifugal force wants to pull them off. When mounted inside the barrel of a wheel the force pushes them against the wheel. If your not worried they'll fly off and hit your qtr (of course) try it!
some truck shops might balance the wheels on the car. andy any advice on that ?
I just came in. I welded 32 grams using two washers.. and now there is no obvious imbalance and the drum never stops in the same place. I am happy and doubt anything would be noticeable at road speed at this point. Just did not want to buy and install another source of unwanted vibration......
I like spin balancing tires/ wheels on the car, mainly old spoke wheels cars with good results. In this case it would be a shame to rebalance tires to compensate for a poorly cast drum. Drums a d rotors are supposed to come balanced...kinda, every one I check off somewhat. Weld to the drum if needed though.
Did you notice a vibration or pedal pulsation after you put drums on? If not don't worry about it.
