I need ya'lls opinion. I am seriously thinking about either a 5.7 or 6.1 Hemi swap for my 66 500. My car is considered a survivor car and is stock even down to the original paint. I love the idea of having the dependability and power gain of the new technology but do I dare do this to an all original car? If I do decide to do this, I plan on keeping the 318 poly and maybe build it and throw it back in someday. Please, tell me what you all think!
Collectors aren't beating each other up for 318 cars, go for it. If it was a Hemi car, my answer would be different.
Yup.. I'd do it in a heartbeat..
Those are my thoughts exactly. It may be cool to build a poly stroker one day but it would be awesome to do the swap. I hope to aquire either a 5.7 or 6.1 by the end of the summer. I will post as I continue the project.
Okay, you guys talked me into it! I'm gonna leave which motor to get up to you guys. 5.7 or 6.1? And go!

maybe check out your local salvage disposal auctions ? We have totalled RT's SRT's going every week for under a grand ...
There's a guy in this month's Hemming's Muscle Machine who did a Gen III in a 66 or 67 Charger!
I can't wait to get this project started! I have a few local pick and pull salvage yards that I can get a complete engine for $250 and the computer and wiring harness for $80. I think I'm just gonna do a basic rebuild for now and keep it stock. Plum floored creations has a full swap kit including everything I need to drop the engine in for about $5000.
Sounds like a solid plan.
