Looking for some advice. Steele Rubber is offering this gas filler gasket that's supposed to fit all mopars through '66. It's clearly round in shape (looks like a toilet bowl gasket!). The photo is of my car and, what appears to be, an oval shaped opening and no gasket. I've always wanted to locate the proper piece but I'm not sure about this one. Has anyone had occasion to replace this gasket with the one from Steele? Their part # is 70-3622-39 and it sells for $22.70 U.S. I first saw this in my Mopar Muscle magazine.
Anyone with a parts manual who can verify if this is the correct piece? It's supposed to replace MOPAR part # 2203472.
Thanks to all and Merry Christmas!!

The one you are thinking of is this one..

Mike, I didn't think anything went there. I always thought the hole went to the ground to keep gas from accumulating while filling/spilling.
Is the 66 different than 67?
I know on a 67 it's open, but don't remember how it looked on a 66. I never knew they existed til I was searching for the filler tube grommet and saw em listed.
Oops....that's why I love this forum. Thanks 67440Dodge. Guess I should have looked under the car. Anyway, the Classic piece looks exactly like what I need.
Many Thanks from the great white North!
Glad to help!
(it was 18 down here in SW Ontario yesterday.. almost shorts/t-shirt weather!)
I'm not sure where a gasket such as the one Mike posted would be located on a 1966 Coronet. The upper section of the fuel filler tube that goes from the gas cap opening in the quarter panel and down to the topside of the trunk floor is encased in a metal sleeve in the trunk compartment that doesn't use a gasket like that one at either end, so it doesn't go there.
It might be located on the underside of the trunk floor where the lower sections of the fuel filler tube and fuel vapor lines go from the underside of the trunk floor into the large and small rubber elbow hoses and then down to the fuel tank, but the gasket pictured doesn't look to have a provision for the fuel vapor line that enters the trunk compartment at the same spot that the larger fuel filler tube does and there are no holes in my trunk floor to attach this type of a gasket, so maybe it snaps into place in that oval hole in the trunk floor? I see no gaskets of any kind on my 66 Coronet fuel filler tube or fuel vapor lines, only the thick rubber grommet that the lower section of the fuel filler tube passes through before it enters into the fuel tank.
I'd like to hear from other 66 B-Body owners to see if this type of a gasket is in place on their cars and if so, where it is located?
By the way, these are older pictures of my cars underside trunk floor and I've since changed out all of the rubber elbow hoses and clamps and all of that black stuff on the underside of my Coronet's trunk floor isn't dirt or rust, it's burnt tire rubber from MANY passes down the quarter mile over the years!
I'll never remove it as I think it adds "character"!

And this final picture shows the lower section of the fuel filler tube going from the large rubber elbow hose down to and entering into the fuel tank.
As a follow up, here's page 14-19 from the 1966 Factory Parts Book that lists a "seal with retainer" being used but this part may only be used on the 1966 Plymouth B-Body cars as I will explain below.
1966 Factory Parts Book Section number: 14-86-42
Part number: 2603 399
Part description: seal, with retainer, filler tube to rear floor pan extension, except station wagon, R
Applications: R, Belvedere, Satellite
Here's the actual page 14-19. I've found through my dealings with Chrysler Factory Parts Books over the years, that if this seal was meant to be used on both the 1966 Dodge and Plymouth B-Body models, Chrysler would have listed both the symbol R for the 1966 Belvedere and Satellite models, as well as the symbol W for the 1966 Coronet and Charger models, or they would have listed no symbols at all for specific model applications, meaning that the part was used on both Dodge and Plymouth B-Body models, so seeing just the R symbol leads me to believe that this part is only used on the 1966 Plymouth B-Body cars.
By the way, this page was taken from the downloadable copy of the 1966 Factory Parts Book on MyMopar web site, as I do NOT write notes or mark up any of my personal Factory Parts Books, or Factory Service Manuals! Doing so is a real pet peeve of mine! :p

I'm with Richard on this one, I think it's a mistake on the parts dealer side.

It sure wouldn't be the first time a part listing error has happened, especially for the 1966 and 1967 B-Body cars. One of the MAJOR part listing errors made by LOTS of retailers concerns the fuel tank mounting strap attaching stud. Their listings for these parts state that the attaching stud is the same for ALL 1966 through 1970 B-Body cars and that is absolutely
NOT true!
This first picture shows the CORRECT 1966 and 1967 part which is not being reproduced by anybody. The 66 & 67 B-Body cars only use ONE of these studs.
This second picture shows the CORRECT fuel tank mounting strap stud for the 1968, 1969 and 1970 B-Body cars that are being reproduced. These cars use TWO of these studs.
This third picture shows the two different studs sitting next to each other. These two studs are
NOT interchangeable as retailers say they are due to the completely different way that the 66/67 & 68/69/70 cars fuel tanks are mounted to the cars. I have contacted a few retailers over the years and explained this fact to them and they have not changed their listings for these parts. I find that VERY frustrating indeed!
