I was wondering what folks use for their preferred engine oil for the 383 High Performance engine, but not necessarily with the HP cam. I am thinking of the 1969 4 barrel-383 engine (not the magnum).
Maybe a 20/50, or even a diesel oil? Advice on zinc additives?

Thanks for what you may be able to offer.
My buddy uses Royal Purple synthetic 20W50 engine oil in his 383 Coronet.
VR-1 Valvoline works great and it has zinc
Available in most all parts stores
Anything with Zinc in it.
any 10w30 with any zinc additive. that's what I use in ALL of my motors.
Same here, 10W30 in my every day engines. It all depends on intended use in whatever season or activity you put your engine through. The secret is to keep the oil clean and stick to a scheduled oil/filter change religiously. I keep records and reminders on my desk and in my truck in plain view. Even my generator and power washer get frequent oil changes as does the transmission/transfer case and rear end in any road vehicle I use including the ATV and boat engine. Good clean oil with lots of volume at the oil pump help ensure a long lasting engine on a Mopar. Zinc additive of course is paramount.
I have been useing Rotella 15 - 40 for several years now.
last 3 or 4 years I have been adding a pint of lucas zinc additive just to be safe.

I think the 15 - 40 holds up good to heat , I change it every 3,000 so it gets changed 2 times each summer, engine stays clean inside , no sludge ect.
Thanks 67rt 4 speeder, I bought the VRI after reading the specs and checking the price.
