New bullet for the "Brick"

theman440 Wrote:I'm hoping to make some serious power with this motor so I wanted to use a block girdle on this build. I'm going with this BCR girdle kit that uses billet aluminum main caps. I also got their billet seal retainer. Read up on why this setup the best out there - http://www.bcrproducts.com/caps_and_girdle_system.html

Those girdles are nice. What is your hp target?

I'm shootin for 700-750. I called the shop that is sonic checking the block and they said I could pick it up tomorrow. Hopefully it will have nice thick cylinder walls.

That's a nice target but I get worried even with the girdle will the blocks live Some say they will others say no. My race car is 3480 lbs and made 786 hp on one dyno and 795 hp on the other (low 700's torque) and puts my car in the 9.60's. Its got a megablock. So your target of 700 to 750 hp should get you in the 9's.

I am shooting for 700 hp with my new build for my 69 GTX. I'm going with the max wedge port Trick Flow 270 heads - crazy cheap at around $2200 assembled for the pair. These are CNC ported out of the box. I went with the new aftermarket "The Block" because I just did not want the chance of block failure. The GTX will be heavy so I'm shooting for 10.30's in decent weather @ 700 hp. It is getting a gear vendor overdrive for street use.

I bought the short block assembled. I was assembling the rest of it a couple of weeks ago. It is in pieces again and I hired Tony Bischoff (BES) to fix all the block problems and assemble the motor. He will dyno it.

Keep us posted on how things are going. Awesome following your build!

I hear ya, yesterday I picked up the block and worksheet and it doesn't look good. I know what I want to do and I'm not sure I can do it with a stock block. I'm not one to go with "off the shelf" or "popular" combinations, I have my own beliefs and ideas and they have served me well. I could try to find another block and "hope" the cylinder walls meet my specs but it will probably be a long shot. I might need to find an aftermarket block but my budget Is really tight . . . Sad

Hey all - I've got a line on a Mopar Performance block, p/n P5249346. The part # is discontinued but It is a NOS block, the seller cannot tell me what bore size it is. When I do an internet search I can't find any info on it. Does anybody have an old Mopar Perfomance catalog they could look at to see if it has any specs on this block?

Thanks in advance.
