Gotta change out my oil pump gasket, damn it!!! Ok so I have a vert, am I gonna have to lift motor up or will pump just come out without taking motor mounts out and lifting motor up??? I will put a new pump back in, duh, my buddy said run a melling,he has a 440 race car. Any suggestions on this lovely endeavor ?? I have a car lift so that will help, looks like 4- 9/16 bolts and there is a 3/8 bolt in the middle top of pump, will that 3/8 have to come out also or is part of pump?? Man there is no wiggle room for nothing,I can get to all 4 bolts and the 3/8,but man it is tight. I have the car for 7 yrs and this is the first hiccup I have had, so I really can't be bitchin. The previous owner said the motor was built in Chicago and it has a Norm's sport club sticker on windshield, but no documentation if it was built at Norms. Thanks guys for viewing my problem, ToddBeer

I really shouldn't be that bad. Try is first with out lifting the motor, but you may have to tip it to the right. You'll figure it out as you go along.

Big block? If memory serves me correctly, there is no gasket just an o-ring to install the pump.

Yea I think there is a gasket there because it's leaking between block and pump

Yea I ordered in a melling high volume pump as I have a 7qt oil pan, just hope I don't have to raise the engine up, what a pain!

I am old. I checked and yes there is a gasket. There is also an o-ring on the shaft.

Sooo what are the chances I am gonna have to raise engine? I have not tackled the project yet, thingsBeer keep coming up, gonna try next weekend, thanks folks

66 Coronet service manual does not say anything about raising or lowering engine in the procedure. That's for a 361/383 engine.

Well hopefully that's for a 440 also, thanks MarkBeer

You don´t have to raise the engine. The bolts are all 9/16, Four of them. You can loosen three of them from below, but the second lower one, the one farther from the radiator is best to reach from above. You can´t see that bolt from above, but can feel it with your finger to mount the socket on it. The hardest part might be to push the pump in again IF you change the o-ring.
