Hemi Sump on a 440 - JohnS - 04-26-17 Hey Guys, How much oil do I need in my car with a 6 quart Hemi sump? I`m not sure if I need the 6 quarts or weather I should allow more to fill the oil filter etc as well as the pan. Hemi Sump on a 440 - ws27 - 04-26-17 I'd start with 5, run the car and add what you need to get to full. Are you having troubles with the dip stick. Hemi Sump on a 440 - JohnS - 04-26-17 Yes thats the trouble, I have a new one with new tube so dont know where the level should be. I want to fill up with the correct amount then mark the dip stick accordingly Hemi Sump on a 440 - 65rbdodge - 04-26-17 I have a 6qt. Hemi pan on my 440 and I always put 6qts. in. You could put the dip stick down the outside of the tube and mark it with a sharpie approximately where it needs to be and then put it in the tube and see where the level is with 5 qts. Hemi Sump on a 440 - thebankerstoy - 04-27-17 On the 440 in my 1966 Coronet 500 which runs a hydraulic flat tappet style camshaft and lifters, I run the following equipment. Mopar Performance Hemi 6 quart oil pan with a matching Hemi 1/2" pick-up tube and screen assembly (all of the oiling passageways were opened up to 1/2" Hemi specs during the engine build) Mopar Performance chrome dip stick and dip stick tube assembly Mopar Performance windage tray Mopar Performance HP oil pump Mopar performance HP 1 quart oil filter With that equipment in place, I run 6 quarts of engine oil plus one 12 ounce bottle of the Comp Cams Engine Break-In Oil Additive (part #159) at every oil change. Richard Hemi Sump on a 440 - JohnS - 04-28-17 Thanks all, I will drop the oil and start with 6 quarts and see where that comes to. My worry is, at the moment it is reading about 1/2" over the full mark and guess that too much oil could be a bad thing so would rather it be right. I didnt fill it I may add and my man that did cant remember if it was 6 or 7 quarts he put in :p |
