Alternator and fan belt - Avenger - 06-03-16
What length of belt should I run for my 66 poly 318 for the alternator and fan.. It still has the one it had when I got it and the part number starts with 485 so it should be a 48.5" belt.. But at work here at the parts store it lists a 52" belt.. The 48.5 that is on there is almost to the end of the adjustment so I know that a 52" is gonna be too long.. Why do they list it like this and what have you guys went with in the past?

I wouldn't waste any more time pondering. You could probably go down an inch or inch and a half with out any issues. Just keep in mind the one you have now might be stretched. Don't worry what the books call for.

I completely agree Rich. This is one time where part numbers don't mean much. Just purchase a belt that seats correctly into the pulleys and enough length to give you adjustment options and you're good to go.
