Crank installed and main studs to torqued to spec.

Before I installed the crank I test fit the rear main seal retainer and scribed lines across it and the block on both sides to make sure the seal grooves were properly aligned when I di the final install.

Update - degreeing the cam.

1st step find TDC-

Then set up dial indicator, spin it around, mark the wheel at proper spots and do the math.

Needed to advance the cam 2 degrees (from zero mark on cam sprocket) to get to a 106 centerline as suggested by Hughes. The Jesel belt drive makes it sooooo easy!

after loading all the pistons and torqueing the rod bolts I installed the girdle studs -

Update,
After degreeing the cam I was going to install the balancer I had from the old engine but discovered it was damaged. I bought a new ATI Super Damper, installed it and the crank pulley so I could mock up the alternator. The pulley I bought specifically for my old balancer had a 1-3/8 offset which spaced the alternator too for forward for my taste. So I bought a 1 inch offset pulley and started mockup, figured out spacers ETC. I decided I need an additional bracket to reinforce the alt pivot mount so I'm designing one now. Gonna make it out of 1/4 thick aluminum.

Next, I discovered that the back of the W/P housing touches the cam sprocket. I bought some housing spacers to fix the issue and test fit them - I found that the water passage holes are considerably smaller than the block and housing passages. I don't want any flow restrictions so I proceeded to enlarge the holes.

I bolted them onto the block and scribed them - here you can see the scribe marks showing the orientation and size of them in relation to the block holes.

After enlarging the holes in one spacer you can better see the difference in the size of the holes in this pic. The modified spacer is on top of the unmodified one.
