Hi guys,

new to the site and have been looking for a dodge coronet on the internet for a while. this site seemed to be active and a good place to park my butt whilst i looked for a car to buy. i'm not in a hurry but was keen to buy in the next 12 mths and shipp back to the Australia - here is a picture of an aussis muscle car that i have been restoring and have just nearly finished.

It's sort of like your muscle cars but a lot less of them over here.

so the brief is to start the looking and investigation stage and take the plunge when the right one comes around.

so if i pipe up and say something stupid then just excuse me .

regards grant
Welcome to the site Grant.. I always liked the design of those Holdens.. looks alot like the Opels that were sold here in the US.

When it comes to questions, ask away! Lot of knowledgeable folks here..
Hi Grant ! Welcome to the site and good luck with your search for a Coronet .
Welcome Grant, what model and year of Coronet are you looking for?
Welcome to the site, good to have a another mopar man aboard! Some of those motors look pretty serious, are those straight 6's with a triple carb setup? Bet those little car's are a blast to drive!

I don't know as much as some of the members, just ask my wife. LOL, but the answer to any question lies with in this site

Ws27,

Yes the holden motor was based on a Chevrolet stright six and was not an exact copy but there is some design cues in it's construction. the most the cubic size got to was 3.3 ltr or 202. It has a few problems in and around 5-6000 rpm where the crank starts to get a little wobbly up, but some of the guys are now getting quiet serious power out of these engines but it's costly to build a tough and reliable engine to race at that level.

the car is a holden torana Gtr was the base model and the GTR Xu1 was the pure race model that was for homologation for racing here and is in limited supply in original form probably similar to your super bee - but just in a lot less volume as Australia in the 70 was a small population nation.

i like the 69 with the head light and tail light detail changed a bit from the 67. I also like the 70 model with the two individual grills.

Ok so here is my wish list.

  • has to be rust free - this is big for me as i have just been through saving my last car from the wreckers based on the colour and having all the Vin tags and the original motor
  • It can be a super Bee clone - as I'm here in australia and no one will know and sometimes the guys that build clones put HEAPs of work into these cars and they look great without the coin ( aussie slang for money ) being spent for the real deal
  • it can be what i think was called a " stock car' " clone " this was the 427 hemi stripped out for stockcar racing - you guys are seriously mad dirving thoes cars with a 427 around a bowl and thoes speeds - mad mad mad
  • has to have a disk front end
  • has to be mechanically sound - not really fussed if it has a 383 or a 440 although the 440 will always have the bragging rights
  • Not sure on the specification of the Auto - but don't want a manual as i live in the City and also my other car is a manual
  • Paint and panel - this car is one that i want to - get in and drive and not strip down and re spray.- but can live with fading paint and go the " pantina look" based on the price
  • good rear end - limited slip as i may want to have a bit of a run down the strip
  • factory options - as many as possible
  • It's a bit of wish list and there is obviously some variables to the in may shades of colour, but I'm not in a hurry to buy a car but just love the look of these cars and fee that i want something different

I sound like a woman Eh !, want this want that

here is a few pictures of my car and it's last stages.

It's ready for a flow coat on Monday

nice to be welcomed like this thanks guys.13781379138013811382
