I just even traded a 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Greenbrier van for a 1966 Dodge Coronet 440 sedan with 3.7L slant 6 & auto trans. I am currently located in Huntington WV. The car is complete the engine & transmission are there but need to be put back in. The guy I traded with thought the car was a 318 car. So he never looked into fixing the slant 6 to put in the car he was going to V8 the car before he traded. He said the slant 6 was making a knocking sound. The car has 90,199 miles on it and is a clean car. It is light blue exterior with dark blue interior and light blue on the center of the door panels. The seats are dark blue with white woven fabric centers. I got the car to make it a back up vehicle to my 2012 Chrysler Town and Country minivan and eventually replace it as a daily driver.
Looks really solid

Welcome
Thanks yea it is really solid car. I traded a 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Greenbrier van for it even trade. Only problem with this car was the previous owner. He saw the Coronet 440 badge on the glovebox an thought the car came with a 440V8 an did not know why someone would put a slant 6 in there. He did not know that the 440 & 500 are trim levels an the slant 6 is the original motor for the car. An he said it had a knocking noise in the motor it wound up being the exhaust broke off an making the noise. Now only thing I got to do is put it back together an i should be good to go to pass inspection by spring 2026 or sooner. VIN # WH41B67294466

What is rare about the 66 Coronet 440 sedans? An is it rare for it to have a slant 6 in it
Sedan is a trim line like the 440 is, and to have the 2 combined is odd, but not unheard of. Sedan was the most affordable of them, mainly sold as fleet vehicles as well entry level cars.

The fact you have a 440 VIN but missing some of the trim for a 440 to make it a Sedan makes it an odd one for sure. Piper has a 67 that is similar, one quarter panel says it's a 440, the other says DELUXE, with no signs of the quarter panel with DELUXE being replaced or emblem added on (different hole pattern so would see evidence of holes welded/drilled).
yea on this car from what I was told from the guy I traded with he was the 4th owner an me now the 5th owner of the vehicle. An if what he says is right have not confirmed yet but he says car was bought local an has stayed in about 30 mile radius. The car looks complete I just got to put it back together an get it back on the road plan to do that by spring. I have no garage to put it in so I will get the parts over winter an come spring have it on the road again. An will use it for a back up car until the minivan goes out then it will be primary vehicle daily driver. I contacted Daniella Szostak-Viers dms166@chrysler.com trying to get history on the car. I am waiting to hear back.
See if the Certicard is still on the radiator support, that will tell you original owner.

A Corvair van... I always wanted to stuff a small block into one of them and have a load of fun.. helped a friend do it to a Porsche 911 in early 90's, put a solid lifter LT1 under the ass end and in straight line it was a blast, the twisties were another story..
yea the card for the original owner was still there. I contacted Chrysler historic & they said be out of the office till January5 2026. The funny part about this i had a 2008 Hyundai Entourage minivan from Sept 2021 till Jan 2024. I bought a 83 buick lesabre sedan 3.8V6 on Dec 31 2022 that had not been legal on the road since May 2005 for $ 600 as a backup car. It became the daily driver in Jan 2024 to Dec 2024 till I bought current vehicle a 2012 Chrysler Town & Country touring L minivan. I wound up with over $3500 in a $1500 Buick Lesabre by Dec 2024. I traded it even in Feb 2025 for a 64 Chevrolet Corvair Greenbrier van that needed a ton of work an who knows when it last seen the road legally the only thing the Buick Lesabre needed then was a water pump that I had in the trunk but not installed yet due to the weather. I got the Corvair van to recoup some of the money an get a better car it wound up being a headach trying to get a windshield for it & get someone to help figure out the belt on this thing. I traded it even for the 66 Dodge Coronet 25 miles away. Only problem with the Coronet is the guy saw the 440 badge on the glovebox an thought it meant that the car was suppose to have a 440 engine in it & could not figure out why someone put a slant 6 in it. He did not know that the 440 badge was a lower trim level an the 500 badge was upper trim level. An he said there was a knocking sound from the slant 6. The car has a broken exhaust an was told to check the flywheel those 2 might be the knocking noise he was hearing so might not be nothing wrong with the motor after all an this car use to be a dail driver. the sticker on the windshield say 04 so hard to tell how long it has sat was told some previous owners drove it about a year or 2 ago.
Most '66 four doors are Deluxe models. Here are the differences -

The Deluxe has narrow side trim that ends roughly 10 inches forward the front doors, Yours has the wider full length 440 trim.
The Deluxe trunk has no trim, just the DODGE letters, and no "C" trim surrounding the tailights. Yours is 440 style.
The Deluxe has just a chrome button in the center of the steering wheel for the horn, yours has the 440(&500)full horn ring.
The Deluxe has a painted plain steel glove box door, yours has the 440 & 500 black plastic door that matches the rest of the dash.
The Deluxe does not have stainless trim around the side windows like yours does. Which interestingly the Coronet 500 SE 4-door (another rare model) has the stainless window trim.
I don't see any rocker moldings.  440 hardtops come with rocker moldings, Deluxe's do not.

Some other odd observations -

Your car has the 440 style 2-tone door panels and 440 patterned seat covers but it has cloth inserts similar to a Deluxe. A 440 hardtop has all vinyl.
Your car does not have the the chrome trim along the bottom and sides of the dash like a 440 model. This would indicate that the trim around the inside of the windshield is painted, like a Deluxe.

Lastly, I can tell that your car was built late in the year because it has the 1967 style shifter handle. Also I see that it has the light package which consists of - Glove box light, trunk light & e-brake indicator light on lower left of the dash.

Welcome to the DCR

Yea, everybody makes that "440" mistake, even some Mopar guys. Officially you could not get a 440 in a Dodge until 1967 and only in a Coronet R/T and in very few Chargers. I have heard stories of a few '66 Coronets "unofficially " getting 440's.
