First off I have no idea what kind of transmission is in car.. lol.. It came out if a big ass new Yorker. 1960+.. car had a 440 attached. Ok my problem is we pushed the coronet on the trailer but would not budge pushing backwards. We ended up just unhooking the driveshaft. Any ideas whats wrong?? Its sat up for a few years in both cars. Thanks for any help.
I would be a big block 727, I had a similar issue with my Coronet years ago, I broke something in the center section and I could only go forward, I put it in reverse and it just locked up
Is there a good replacement for it, or the 727 good?
727's (transmissions) are tough pieces. Have it freshened up for good measure (the center section would be the rear) that you can find easily enough if you can make the determination that is the issue (I would jack up the car by the rear, unhook the drive shaft and spin the tires)
Oh yes we already have. Undid the driveshaft to get off the trailer. Both wheels spun after that. Thanks for the reply
I had the same problem with a 70 Plymouth one time. Drove to the store and back then went to leave and it would not budge in reverse. I even put it in neutral and still wouldn't roll.We drug it out of the driveway with a truck and put it in drive and it drove great! Never did figure it out as I ended up selling it. Im interested to see what you find the problem to be.
^^^Your the second person to say this! Lol..
I believe it might be you're detent lever that is stuck.
Or the detent lever is out of alignment. If it is a high mileage car the bushings in the shifter linkages can be so worn or missing and the linkage binds up.
I agree with 4264door, very common problem. But surprisingly, very few people will try to shift it at the tranny from underneath and don't discover the actual problem. I personally never minded laying in the dirt to check things out...
