I wish they'd show up.. it'd be good to see some fresh faces around here

Yep, the usual suspects would welcome some fresh faces in the DCR membership! Here we are discussing 1966 and 1967 Coronet wood grain steering wheels and the CORRECT horn caps!

We are actually one of the few survivors, as many forums saw drops in usage as far back as 2009 and many folded. Who is to blame? General consensus is FaceCrook along with changing hobbies and such.
I found an old email from a coaster buddy of mine about how we both left this coaster nut forum because it died a slow and painful death.. and it wasn't just us, the biggest coaster forum in the world took a heder that year, Most likely to the chocolate starfish owner who if you didn't kss his ass, look out, you were booted for at least 2 weeks,,

Unfortunately we've been seeing a lot more visitors here on the DCR than members and that's been happening for quite awhile now.
Something that has always irked me is the fact that most every website no matter what kind of a website it is can show having a large number of "members" yet only a small number of those members are "active members" who pretty much carry the website aka "the usual suspects". I've had the honor and pleasure of being a moderator on several other Mopar websites over the years and it always amazed me seeing many members who had been around for years and never posted a reply or started a thread! If we ever run a poll, please put me down as NOT being a fan of "lurkers"! If you join a website to enjoy all of it's features, then please join in and help keep it an active and fun place to belong!

Richard, one reason so many sign up but don't post is we require a valid account to view pictures. So people sign up, look at pics then leave

Hello Mike,
May I disagree with that? I can't speak for the DCR as I'm not a moderator who has access to the behind the scenes information that you and Kevin can see, but I can speak from my past experiences as a moderator on other Mopar websites where there were indeed a fair number of "lurkers" who had been a "member" for many years without ever participating in anyway.
Regarding my statement of the DCR seeing many more visitors than members on a daily basis, below are the current visitors vs members ratio when I signed on to do this post.
Currently Active Users
There are currently 276 users online. 2 members and 274 guests
While this IS a normal occurrence on just about every website, the fact that the DCR rarely sees more than two or three members at a time on a daily basis is deeply concerning to me. If you have that low a number of members on site on a daily basis and those few members don't participate by posting replies to existing threads or starting a new thread, how long can the DCR survive? Members need to realize that if not for you and Kevin the DCR would have gone the way of your coaster websites years ago as well and I DO NOT want to see that happen!

Richard,
"Guests" can be anyone from casual visitors to search engines trolling the site, so we really can't go by that. I can tell you that since Feb 2018 we actually have more traffic on the board (as in data transfer) these past few months than back then. That could be because we allowed larger pictures, or more visitors taking a peak.
Some people sell their cars and never look back (Joe Mama is one of the rare ones), others get tired of the content (ie coaster forum) or the direction (I stopped going to a submarine veteran's board because it went from ball busting to ultra serious and protocol driven, and any deviation is met with swift reprisals. Yes, I got threatened for not "toeing the party line)
Bottom line is we can't force people to participate, or to post. I've thrown up a couple seemingly meaningless topics that has gotten some attention, I just wish people would post some more. I spoke to a friend that is the equivalent of Galen in the 70 Chevelle SS world and all the forums he used to go to have died out due to FB..

.....and as we both know, Facebook was never originally set up for specific topic related boards such as the DCR and it still isn't. It was designed as a chat room where anybody and everybody can join in the conversation, so keeping a specific topic going is challenging at best.
OK Mike, but I think that you will agree with me that when the "search engine trolls" come visiting it's usually very easy to see in most cases due to the large spike in the "guest" numbers and can we agree than when we both visit the DCR website day or night there are rarely more than two or three "members"?
Do you think allowing visitors more access to the DCR would help? Maybe allowing them access to everything with the exception of replying to existing threads or starting a new thread?
Might it also be beneficial to start a thread asking members to explain what they do and don't like about the Facebook version of the DCR and what they do and don't like about the website version? Maybe that would help narrow down what really needs to be addressed on both venues over and above the picture posting issues here.
