On My `67 Dart it has A/C so I have the push button controls for heat/ defrost, the buttons are tight to go in feeling like it might break if I keep it up and the fan won't come on unless buttons is most the way in. The unit works fine so would rather keep this one than buying new.
I was wondering if anyone played around with servicing the assembly or simply lubing somehow?
These units get brittle and break over half a century or so :-)
They are riveted together and maybe glued as well.
They might be able to be lubed up, but from past experience, it's not worth the time since new ones are out there.
I believe they are all the same and just have different (superseded) part numbers.
You don't have to pay the king's ransom that some are asking for NOS pieces.

If you do try to service it, be careful pulling the vacuum plug off of the back, the pipes that go into the rubber plug are the most fragile part of the unit.
Pull the radio out first, then pull the electrical connections off of the AC controller, then remove that so you can gently pull the rubber plug off.
They have plastic rivets that hold the back on, you can drill those out and epoxy the holes to get it back together.
Meanwhile I'll keep my eyes open for a cheap used one that can be experimented with.
I will get it out this week and look at it.
Andy, I took Jim's wagon one apart and lubed it up with silicone. It worked great. I used very tiny screws to put it back together. I think the were #4s.

Below I've listed the information for the plastic push button temperature control switches from the 1967 Factory Parts Book. Two different part numbers were used on the 1967 vehicles, one for the A-Body vehicles and a second for the B-Body and C-Body vehicles. Chrysler placed the part number on these units in various colors (red, blue etc), so you will be able to tell them apart from one another.
I will agree with Jim that these units were superseded with various part numbers over the years as many other parts were, but I can not verify that all of these units will fit and work on all A, B and C-Body vehicles. Usually when Chrysler used a different part number for the same part in the same model year there was enough of a difference in the part to warrant a separate part number.
By the way, the 1966 model year vehicles use the same two part numbers for the same applications as the 1967 model year vehicles. A few of the 1965 and 1968 model year vehicles also use the same part number 2587564, but not on all of the same models. All of the push button switches can be found in the 1965 through 1968 Factory Parts Books under section number 24-24-150.

Richard thank you sir. I haven't even looked at all yet, I need to slow down. I did get some over due repairs on Tank finished, new transmission,reseal rear end and power steering. So now for some Junior time soon.
First one I googled was $400 so that won't be happening soon, I would like to take old one apart first anyway just because I like to take things apart .
Lauri has been having fun driving Jr lately so I need that heater working for her soon.
.....and after you take it apart and repair it, it will function better than it did when it was a new part!
