I am going to have to pull motor and tranny to fix some oil leaks- (rear main or pan, tranny front pump seal). While its out I'm thinking of putting in a mini starter to cure the hot start issue as we have headers on the car. It starts but its laboring and always makes ya wonder. I bought the wrap to do the starter but never installed it. I like the original look but lets face it-don't wanna be stranded. Also the steering gear that was rebuilt probably 10 years ago only survived one summer and is now leaking from where the steering column enters. Leaking bad too. Both the starter and steering gear can are gonna be easier to do by pulling the motor-again due to Hooker Super comps. I want to change these outs and wanna get your guys input on firm feel or any company along with mini starter thoughts. Will a firm feel box change the ratio or just the effort of steering? Right now its a one finger operation. Car is just a cruiser.
Also gotta fix:
Leaking brake caliper
Leaking heater hose
Install correct 402 oil pan and pickup
Damn I love old cars...
It is not hard to change the seals in your box especially with it out. You pick what stage/ratio feel box from firm feel. Steer and gear is good also for a replacement.
Caliper online did me right on rebuilding my original calipers, I tried to kit them and they still leaked.
Lots of cheapie starters out there so watch out.

Can get a power master mini starter from the local mopar dealer at a decent price.
Calipers are 74-76 A body versions and I have place that rebuilds locally so they might be able to do them reasonably.

OK I get it , those are allot easier to rebuild so should be cheap. Kits are like 10 bucks.
Power Master will be a good choice
The mini-starters are the same starters that came in early-mid 90's pickups, so you should be able to get it from any part store
I’ve heard that about mid 90’s truck starters. My thing is a made in China knockoff? The power master probably is too. Also the part about being “clockable” is nice due to the headers. Be able to position the terminals so they are furthest from the tubes. Also wonder if god forbid this starter can be removed with the headers on?

I had Hooker Super Comps and I was able to pull my mini starter without any issues.
I put the smaller replacement starter in mine with Heddman headers. So much easier than the old heavy starter. The wires were close enough to the block to make me nervous but cleared the headers quite well.
I used the mini starter as well, don't have headers, but some of my customers cars do. TTi makes great headers and the starters fit easily
