Hi all, I am looking to buy a 1969 Coronet RT that is for sale locally here in Perth, Australia. Im a matching numbers car guy and Im wondering where is the best place to get info on the engine and gear box numbers. Everything on the Vin number checks out with it being a 440 magnum with manual transmission and is a genuine RT. Does anyone know what gearbox should be in the car. There is a W88 4 speed in it.. The Vin number is WS23L9G138128. It was imported from the US in 2010 and Im told it was in the Mentor Speed Museum. Any help appreciated
Cheers, Rob

Welcome!! It should be a New process 833 4 speed. I wonder where the original is, maybe the guys at the Mentor Speed Museum would know?

Thanks for the info. The engine matches but not the gearbox. Do you know what a W88 gearbox is? I can't seem to find any info on it.

No, maybe someone here does?
Welcome Xtro, I think by 69, they were putting VIN or partial VIN on the motor and trans. Were you able to find any?
Hey s27 Ive found the engine Vin and that matches. Haven't really looked for the gearbox Vin as the guy told me it had a W88 in it. I don't know what a W88 is. He hasnt changed anything on the car so for all I know it may still have the original 833 in it. Im going to check it out again today so will have another look.

If it's the correct trans for the car, it should have the last 5-6 numbers of your VIN# stamped on the driver's side.
I took these pics of the gearbox. These were the only numbers I could see. I looked it up on the web and it seems to be a New Process 833. Can anyone confirm please.

Yup, that's the guy! What's the date code?
Yup.. that looks like a 833 to me.. it;s a 68 or later because it's got the raised pad where they stamped the VIN of the car it was going on,
