Just bought a 67 R/T. I had been looking for a Road Runner for a while and this popped up and I couldn't pass it up. It is my first Mopar. I helped my dad restore his 1966 Satellite. He had to sell it due to health reasons and at the time I couldn't buy it. I tracked it down, but the current owner isn't willing to part with it yet, so my wife suggested I get something to work on with me and my 5 year old son.

I really wanted a road runner, but most are either complete rust buckets (way more work than I wanted to tackle on my first car, or have eat up my wallet), or they were all more than I wanted to spend as they were fully restored (which takes out a lot of the fun of working on as a father son project). So while looking my uncle sent me an 67 R/T that need some work and it reminded me how much I loved the look of the 66-67's. I did one search and came across this R/T and couldn't be happier.

My dad and I drove up to look at is and had a great trip. We went out for a test drive and then bought it. It has a 66 383 in it as the original owner used to drag race and pulled the motor to race with then put in the 383. The second owner, who I bought it from, put a cam in it, high rise intake, Holly Carb, new manifolds, belts, hoses, bushings, and a bunch of other stuff. Has new interior and most of the chrome is good but does have some things that need to be replace, rear molding panel and taillights, front grill surround, need the instrument cluster cover and glove box cover redone, as well as a few other standard B-Body moldings.

It has a few mechanical things that need to be done, he mounted the alternator incorrectly when they put new belts on and the belt is sloppy. It needs an alignment from the bushings being replaces. It also has a slight shake and clunk that my dad and uncle think is from the U-Joints and they need to be replaced. Going to take it to the shop in the next week or so.

Super solid underneath and has been repainted once, but original trunk and engine paint. But overall for what I paid for it, I fell like I got a great deal!

I had it trailed down last week and he came up and we all went for a cruise. It was a blast! This has really brought some joy to my dad and he is as excited as I am. My son loves it too! I took him out and gunned it and he screamed like a girl! It was hilarious! He immediately said, "do that thing again that made me scream daddy!" He has helped me wash it, learned how to polish chrome and detail the interior. He couldn't believe he could lay down completely in the back seat and it was big enough to take a nap in. He was also blown away that each seat seat had it's own little storage compartment (cigarette holder)! My parents cracked up when I told them that.

I have already done a few small things to the car and am looking forward to asking questions and learning more here so I can do more things myself instead of having to take it to the shop.

My first question that I have and my dad could figure out either is that my trunk lid (which is original) has two emblem holes on the left side in line with the DODGE lettering, but there is no emblem there. My dad said the holes look factory, but we can't figure out for the life of us what was there. I scoured the internet and could only find two images that had an emblem there, but they are too blurry to make out what exactly it is. Both were just vertical bars that look to be about 1" by about 4". Would it be a dealer emblem maybe? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Photos from just before I bought it.

Welcome to the site Paul. That's a nice RT you chose.

It's awesome how it brings generations together. I'm glad your son has an interest in it, most kids today are caught up in too many electronic gadgets.

The holes in question were most likely from a dealer emblem. And now you are going to realize the plight of our 66-67 B-bodies. Some parts are virtually non existent. Grill surrounds, trunk finish panels wheel lip moldings and some other parts are made from unobtanium. Then when you find one and hear the price, you realize they are actually made from Ohmygodalloy. Good luck with it and you'll find a bunch of people here who are willing to help with any question.
Cool story and nice car! Looks like it's solid. I like the color too! I too say the holes are from a dealer emblem.
Welcome! I think you're right, dealer name, city and state goes there, it would have been pot metal, check and see where it was sold new!
NICE R/T welcome aboard .
Thanks guys! I will have to dig to find out where was the original dealership. Do you guys have any tips or places on line I could use? I am trying to figure out what I want to put there in the mean time. I don't really want to leave the open holes. Any suggestions? If I can't find the dealer I was thinking having one made or trying to make one my self and using my last name, but don't know yet.

I understand the issue with hard to find parts. My dad's 66 Satellite was the same way. Some of the usual standard BBody parts, but a lot of one year items like the grill, headlight molding, tail lights, deck lid molding, etc. Spent many years at Carlisle walking the coral hunting down parts, polishing them or sending them out to be re-chromed or re-anodized. Doesn't hurt that I have a graphic design degree and can spot parts from miles away :-). Found a ton for my dad over the years. Can't wait to go hunting with my son next year.

I have started to catalog what parts I have that are bad, driver, and show quality and started watching sites and ebay to get an idea of price and rarity.

I did jump on a repop R/T grill center, as from what I can tell these are extremely hard to find, and especially in decent shape. The one I got is gorgeous! Just have to polish up or re-anodize the rest of the grill to match. I see some good elbow grease getting used in my near future. Told my son that last weekend and he is still too young to get it, but he will one day. I laughed at least. Over the years I polished a ton of my dads parts and am pretty good at it, so we will have to see.

Once again, glad to be here and looking forward to conversing with everyone.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is an IBM card? Is that the same as a build sheet? Or is it like the Certicard (which I do not have/could not find)? I have not pulled the rear seat yet. I know on Roadrunners that is where the build sheet was. Is that true for the Coronets?
