So, some may be wondering an easy and inexpensive way to make your chrome look like new. When I got my Coronet from my buddy he drove it a lot of in the country on dirt roads. Needless to say the wheel caps and bumper and fender where in BAD shape. All you have to do is purchase you some steel wool and go to town on the chrome with it. Below is a before and after picture of my wheel caps. Each one took between 30 minutes and an hour to do but boy did it bring them back to life.

The finished one looks great. Please state what grade of steel wool you used. I believe the finest is 0000, then it gets coarser from there.

Correct. You want to get the finest you can. Stay away from the coarser stuff as you can ruin the chrome. Stick with the finest and you will be good to go.
Be careful when doing this, press to hard and you can scratch it badly, also use some white vinegar, the acidy cleans it quicker than just the steel wool.
You do have to be careful. However. As long as you stick to the finest steel wool you should be ok.
Ive heard crumpled up aluminum foil and wd40 works pretty good as well...
I used loosely crumpled aluminum foil and water actually. Works really well. From what I read online, the water and the friction of the metal on metal causes a chemical reaction that attracts the rust to the foil instead of the chrome piece. I also read that you should put a nice coat of wax or some sort of sealer on it once you're done to "close it up" to any outside elements.
I used to use oil and a brillo pad on my bicycle rims, it did pretty good job also..
