the large casting number ending in 741 means the pinion size, there were 3, 741,742 and 489. 741 is a 1 3/8 stem pinion. other stuff im not sure, but i bet date code, and manufacture
Below the 741 casting code is something that looks like a tag held on with screws. This is part of the casting and includes the date code of the casting.
The DPCD is a holdover from the Desto/Chryser/Dodge/Plymouth days.. I've only see that case on a couple full size barges from 1964 or so,

the X is another way to denote it is a 741 housing..
Interesting, so what letter would it be if 742 or 489?

it's not always there, but 742 has a 2 on the housing, and 489 has a 9.
Some 742 and 489 cases have the last digit of the casting code on the housing. (2 and 9 respectively)
See my post and photos as well for reference on the numbers
