Hes been saving up since we put on the alterkation, so what it ends up costing is what it costs he's owned that Plymouth over 35 years so the car and owner deserve this

This might be a dumb question but can I get that out of his engine?
Believe it requires a 340/360 block to make a 408. I think Muscle Motors might have a kit that can be used to stroke a 318 block.

If you don't mind me asking ,what was the cost of the Alterkation complete kit ?
If you end up going with a hot 340 or 360, I'd go with a 727 transmission. If you go with the rebuilt 318 with a new intake and carb, I'd rebuild the 904 with a nice shift kit.
On my sons 1972 Dart Swinger, I went with a remanufactured short block from Chrysler and added a factory cast 340 intake manifold with an adapter for the Holley 600 four barrel carb and also added a set of the 340 exhaust manifolds. We rebuilt the cars original cylinder heads and topped off the engine with one of the Mopar Performance chrome 340 air cleaner assemblies, I also installed one of the Mopar Performance 90 degree oil filter adapters so that we can run the larger capacity oil filters and I also added one of the small block high performance Mopar Performance fuel pumps.
Regarding the transmission, I had the cars original 904 completely rebuilt and added a nice shift kit and a new factory spec torque converter and a Mopar Performance deep transmission oil pan and filter kit.
This car still runs it's original 7.5 rear axle assembly without a Sure-Grip unit and a 2.76 gear ratio, so it's not a hot rod by any means, but it IS a very nice overall engine, transmission and suspension package that has all of it's parts working well together.
My son lives in California now and the car stays here in my garage, so he doesn't drive it on a daily basis any more, but while he was using it as a daily driver, he absolutely loved the car for it's reliability, handling and smooth well running 318 that also sounds great with it's duel exhaust system.
It sounds as if your friend isn't looking for impressive E.T.'s on the drag strip, but is looking for a well rounded power and handling package that won't need daily maintenance to keep it happy, so please don't sell that 318 and 904 short, as if done correctly, that combo could make him very happy.

Richard you are right this is no drag car Doug just wants the car to perform better and sound cool, while making the owner feel better as well, as everyone eyeballs this car when he has it out. right now it is not doing that Petty blue hue any justice

Without looking up the actual receipt I believe it was around $ 3500, 2 or 3 years ago , which seems like a lot ,but it is a complete kit and this was a drum brake car to start with... and we all know what they get just for the disc brake kits, and theirs are Wilwoods ,braided brake hoses plus you get tubular a arms, coil over shocks and Rack n pinion steering. Not to mention tons of room for headers. Then think of all the weight you just shaved off when you look at the factory cradle and steering box. then go for a test ride and it handles like a go cart, now we need their four link and coil-overs out back. This car didn't even have a factory sway bar which the kit included!
Altercations are a nice setup. They are made pretty close to my house. I've been to the shop many times and have become friends with Bill Reilly, he's a great guy.
just dropped the engine off by my engine guy and he is talking about making us a 392 stroker out of our little 318 and then building us a killer 727 automatic to back it up with.
I love it when people do the oddball stuff!
