HI,

This is a minor issue really..But I want everything to work like it should on my car.

My floor console does not 'click' positively into first gear. It slides down to the 1st position on the gear indicator strip, but the shifter will spring up to almost 2nd gear if I let it go.

Normally I start a burnout in 1st, very briefly and then shift into 2nd manually..then 3rd.. SO I would never really leave it in locked into first position. My hand is always on the shifter holding it back into first.

But, that is not normal operation right? Shouldn't it go click into first, with some type of detent and then ratchet up through 2nd and into drive?
Not normal, try adjusting rod at transmission lever. The factory manual should help.

It is out just a little bit.
Thanks..I will try that. We thought it might be a bushing somewhere that is worn..I am going to replace them all anyway while we are mucking about with this. I know if I don't one of them will give out soon anyway.
Is the shift lever bottom out against the bottom of the shift gate on the console plate? Maybe pull the console and see if it will go down far enough to click.

Yes that is the problem..It bottoms out on the console opening..

But if that is the case, it must be an adjustment in that lever.
Can you loosen the console shell and slide it back? Or maybe loosen the shift lever assy on the floor and move it forward? Just make sure that after getting it to click into 1st you didn't rob "park" of its spot! No pun intended.
Both good suggestions. I will take a look at it today.
