Builder had messed up the push rod length in my daughter's 67 Coronet 500. This led me to changing the lifters in the engine.

I have 26 runs on the engine and maybe 200 street miles.

So I pulled the lifters out. 6 or 7 lifters are bad with 2 to 3 of those being pretty bad. No idea on the condition on the cam, but my bet is it is hurt. I will be calling comp cams on Monday to get their opinion. My current plan is to go ahead and put it back together with the new lifters put some runs on it and limit street miles.

I guess I will put a hydraulic roller cam in it when I put the motor in the GTX.

I thought I did everything right. I was running 20W-50 Valvoline VR1 racing oil.

if the lifters are flat spotting, it's too late. The wear pattern to rotate the lifters is gone from the lobe.

I was same way with a cam I had in a 440.. called Crane because I followed every break in procedure to the letter, always ran high zinc content oil and still had one stop spinning. Once the lifter stops spinning, and even if the lobe measures the same lift (mine was) the lobe is done for they said. They said I could just put another lifter in, but they would pretty much guarantee that the lobe would wipe in short order. Crane was good and warranteed the lifters, but couldn't warranty the cam because it was a Comp grind.

What grind Comp cam was it?

Denial is over. I'm putting a hydraulic roller in it. Should of done that in the first place.

The need for speed

Well I ended up with a Lunati hydraulic roller. I wanted a Crane cam and lifters, but there are no Crane lifters to be had. Hasn't been in a while and Crane guessed 6 to 8 weeks to get some in.

Plus Lunati was A LOT cheaper. Crane lifters alone were over $600. I bought a complete kit including timing chain, springs, retainers, locks, lifters and cam for $1000.
