The software to run galleries is now open source, so it was free. To access them, visit the link under The Hangout.
Maximum image size that can be uploaded is 1M in size.
As time goes on and we can better determine usage, we need to keep the storage limits a little low. Depending on usage, they may increase.
For now, regular members will get 10M in storage. Members that make a donation will receive 30M in storage.
Let me know if you have any questions..
Mike
Thank you Mike.
Open source, so is the program Linux based?
Richard
Open source means the program is free for people to use/modify as they see fit.
The website does run on a Linux server. Not sure what flavor it is though.
Yes sir, understood about the term open source. It's just that most Linux based operating systems and available programs within Linux operating systems are open source, while many of the Windows based programs aren't, so you have to pay a fee to use them. That's why I love Linux operating systems and their programs so much, superior security in everything they do and almost all of it is free, you just can't beat that.
Richard
It costs us over $5,000 per year to maintain our Linux based servers here. You don't want to know what one of the Unix boxes that uses lot of open source costs for software support each year. A user management system based on open source costs $5.00 per user, per year. Now multiply that by 150,000 users and you'll see that open source doesn't mean free.
The cost for our Windows based servers software support? $0.00
Speaking purely from the end users perspective Mike, Linux based operating systems cost me absolutely nothing, nor do any of the programs that I have installed on my computer.
I am also no longer spending a fair amount of money every year purchasing security protection for a Window based operating system as I use to have to do and I also have almost none of the security risks and issues with my Linux system that I had with the Windows systems.
Anyway, not to get off topic here, so thank you again for setting up the Members Gallery function my friend.
Richard
