I had conversations with Kevin several times about setting up a registry but not for a long time. There are pros and cons to a good registry. One is the time it takes to administer it properly. Many good people have started one with good intentions and become overwhelmed with the amount of time it takes.
How in-depth of a registry would suffice? What would it look like? Who manages it? Who can contribute to it? How much data do you want to manage? What years are included? Does it have a sortable data base? Do you included cars that are known to be salvaged to help determine prevalence of colors and options or only those still existing? What documentation, if any, do you require from registrants? Do you break it out by model? Year? The answers will help determine whether or not it is a viable accurate reference or just another interesting activity.
I have seen other websites go almost dormant over the winter months. I attribute it to 'the dreaded winter doldrums'. Once people get sun in their faces again (for those of us who don't live where Richard lives) and get a healthy dose of vitamin D, things will pick up here again. Fret not fellow DCR members!
I have no freking idea what any of this cost but I am SOOO glad I do not have to look at side bar advertisement (yes, that means you Summit Racing) I think it is time to ante up!! I am feeding the operation coffers now, keep up the good work.
I know this thread is not how to improve the DCR but a way to get more activity going on. For me I never have time when at home to pop in and say "hey" and I play catch up at work when I am contained on a ship for 28 days. With my active life style at home, I would be more inclinde to participate if there was a smart phone app... again, I have no idea what this stuff cost. Think of the app possabilities and we all carry smart phones now days- up to the minute updates at car shows and on the road, cruises, rallys, quick post on how to w photos and working in shop updates. I know this would work only if a app could be tied in the the DCR form. Again please forgive my comuter illiteracy, I do not know if this is at all possible either.
There is an app for mobile phones, I played with it awhile back but other things came up. I'll add it to the list of things to do.
Thanks!!
Not everybody has a smart phone these days. The Mayer of Gotham City still contacts Steve, er Batman on the red rotary phone on those snowy nights when he can't use the Bat Signal!
