Getting it out is easy, I cut the rubber gasket flush with the windshield. Then slowly cut the gasket around the edge of the glass. If you want to save the gasket then you are correct it can be difficult. I have found that getting the gasket warm/hot and lots of soapy water works wonders. I also start at the top and work down.
