When I'm gone for any extended period of time I un-plug the opener and secure a cable and pad lock between the door slide channel opening slot and the steel alignment wheel axle. The door can only be opened about less than an inch after doing that. I never keep my remote door opener in my vehicle either but if I know I will be wanting to enter my garage using my opener I carry it in a shirt pocket then store it away after using it. The above videos are good information as well, thanks for posting them! Another thing I use all the time for the man door at the back of the garage is to secure a 2x6 board across the inside of the door at chest level using Z brackets screwed right into the door frame studs. As always, proper functioning outdoor lighting that is tough to disable is part of the plan as well. NOBODY is going to steal my hemi engine and other parts or tools!
