Would love to know what I have.

8G- would seem to indicate a 1968 vehicle that was built at the St. Louis assembly plant. The 224473 would be the vehicle sequence number, so all together the 8G224473 would be a partial VIN number of the vehicle it came from.

The PK number also indicates that this transmission is from a "B" or a "C" body vehicle equipped with either a 383-4 barrel engine or a 440 HP engine. The date code on the transmission says that this one was built on April 16th, 1968 and was the 1,399th transmission built that day.

All this together tells you this transmission was built and installed into a late '68 model year "B" or "C" body with a big block HP engine that was built in the St. Louis, Missouri assembly plant with a partial VIN # of 8G224473.

STL didn't build C bodies so we can eliminate those.

It is highly likely it was from a Coronet or Charger with an SPD of on or about 422. That would fit well with the assembly date of 4/16.

We also know it's the 541 tranny so that narrows it down to, possibly, probably, likely (is that enough disclaimers???? Smile ) a 383 Super Bee or a 440 equipped Coronet R/T or Charger R/T.

My $0.02

I wondered about 'C' bodies at St. Louis, but did not know for sure whether they made them there. Thanks for that info. Smile I would think it could also be from a Road Runner or GTX as well. popcorn

With that VIN it is probably from a Coronet or possibly a Charger.
