Its a new carb, I just tried bringing the plates all the way to the open position (with a feeler gauge I am talking like .025....and she wont start.) I am running an MSD billet distributor now
think its a matter of tune tune tune till I find the sweet spot
Kevin, I agree with Joe, I bet you need to drill some holes in the primary plates. Only problem is how big?
Maybe start small, then go up as needed?
Drilling is basically a controlled vacuum leak. So before you start drilling, reset the carb to factory settings (plates just exposing the idle circuit, idle screws turned out a bit) and then start it with a vacuum hose that attaches below the throttle plate removed (good one is the 3/8 one in the back). Start closing off the hole with paper until it starts to run decent. if it won't run decent with this vacuum leak, then drilling won't help.
