I have a leak and I have pin pointed it to the base of the dipstick tube... this may be an easy fix but I didn't just want to get down there and start prying on stuff and break it. Does that screw into the base? Does it just slide into some sort of seal and the seal needs to be replaced? I put a bit of permatex sealant on it but it just leaked underneath it and got out anyway so I peeled that off... What's the best way to fix it? (I checked the manuals and it's not in there, probably because it's such a minor job)
There is an o-ring on the end of the tube. There is a bracket on it that bolts to the trans bellhousing. Unbolt it and the tube will pull out - on the early transmissions there is also a 1/4-20 bolt right next the tube where it enters the case, if it has it it will have to be removed too. Dont forget a drain pan (oil will come out)
